"Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls." (Jeremiah 6:16)

Away With the False Concept of a
New Testament God Who Is All Goodness

by Stuart DiNenno

Jesus Christ is the incarnate Word of God and is God Himself (John 1:1). He is the eternal and immutable God who said “I change not” (Malachi 3:6) and “with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17).

He is the same God who ordered the slaughter of the entire race of Canaanites — man, woman, and child; He is the same God who required that false prophets, witches, sodomites, and even incorrigible children be put to death; He is the same God who caused the earth to be flooded so that all of humanity, except for eight souls, was killed; He is the same God who brought destruction on the multitudes of disobedient children of Israel in the wilderness so that they did not enter the promised land; He is the same God who punished the infidelity of His people by bringing foreign invaders into their land who either put them to the sword or took them away into slavery.

We serve, and are in subjection to, the same God today and the Bible speaks of both His “goodness and severity” (Romans 11:22). Away with the false concept of a New Testament god who is of a milder and more tolerant character — a counterfeit Christ who has all of the goodness but none of the severity. He is nothing but an idol of men’s imaginations.
